The Children of David and Mary/Polly Branscomb:
John Branscomb

Please check the Author's Notes for an explanation of the numbering system I use for identifying individuals within any family.

The line of descent for John Branscomb:

1. John Branscomb

John Branscomb was b. ca. 1818 Ky., d. before 1864 in Johnson Co., Ill. Married 29 September 1844 in Johnson Co. to Susan A. Frost , b. ca. 1817 Tenn. (Johnson Co. Marriage Book for 1835-1857, p. 230). The 1850 census shows John as age 32 in his parentsí home, whereas Susan A. Branchcomb was in Mount Vernon Township, Jefferson Co., Ill., in a household headed by Nancy Wallace, age 28, b. Tenn. Also in the household were Mary M. Branchcomb, age 2, b. Ill., and Sarah Frost, age 47, b. N.C. It is likely that Sarah Frost was the mother of both Nancy Wallace and Susan Branchcomb and that Mary M. Branchcomb was Susanís daughter. In the nearby dwelling of Francis and Rachel Hicks was Daniel Branchcomb, age 5, b. Ill. Susan was not listed in the 1860 census as a resident in the household of Nancy Wallace.

The children of John and Susan:

11. Daniel Branscomb. The 1860 census for Mount Vernon Twp of Jefferson Co. shows Daniel as age 13. He is reported as having married on 9 January 1870 Mary Frances Gentle, d/o John Gentle and Frances Parish. Some records concerning Daniel and Frances are available in Jefferson County after 1870. At a later time Daniel and Frances, plus Ezekiel Gentle the brother of Frances, were in Indian territory (now Oklahoma). In 1911 the following persons filed quit claim deeds as heirs of Ezekiel: F. F. and Florence Branchcomb: E. Maude and S. V. Norwark, and Oscar Branchcomb, all of Washington Co., Ark.; also J. L. and N. A. Branchcomb of Cherokee County, OK . (Note: Harry A. Parkhill of Gilman, Ill., collected the information concerning Danielís marriage and about the quit claim deeds in Indian territory and Arkansas; J. D. Thomas forwarded it to me. I do not vouch for the accuracy of the information, but I include it for the benefit of anyone who wishes to explore further. I did find that John L. was born in February 1871 in Ill. and that his parents were born in Ill.; also that he and Nancy Branchcomb were listed in T18 N R.21E in the 1900 census for Indian territory.)

12. Mary M. Branchcomb, b. ca. 1848 Ill. The only information I have concerning her comes from the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Jefferson Co., Ill. In 1860 she was listed in the census records as living in the household of Samuel and Angeline Gibson.
