As was the case for my 1996 book, I have relied upon competent and dedicated colleagues who provided census data, information from official county records, family sources, correspondence, and other sources. We have worked closely to assure that the content of this book is as free from error as we can make it. Numerous drafts for each section were read carefully by the persons who were most knowledgeable about the families whose histories were covered in those drafts. I take responsibility for any errors which remain, and I will be glad to hear from anyone who can provide firm evidence to correct any error. However, I will no longer give full attention to the Branscomb family, as I have done for the past two decades; I will continue to maintain records for Richard the immigrant and his wife Sarah Proctor, and for all other families not mentioned below, and the descendants of Isaac (1835-1914), who was the principal subject of my 1996 book, but now I defer to the individuals named below to maintain records for the other Branscomb/Branscum families in America. (Note: The genealogical history for Thomas Branscomb s/o Richard the immigrant provides only brief information for Thomas's son Isaac Branscomb/Branscome (1765-1851). My information is derived from records of Greensville and Patrick Counties, Va., plus one published source. I do not provide information for Isaac's descendants other than the names and approximate dates of his children, plus the names of their spouses.)
